Tatiana Koleva was born in Varna, Bulgaria and currently lives in the Netherlands. Since the beginning of her career, Tatiana Koleva has reaped success with her musical interpretations at festivals and concerts on many international stages. One of the most promising young musicians in contemporary music, her performances leave the audience spellbound with their intriguing rhythms, fascinating sounds and surprising musical developments.
Background
Tatiana Koleva studied piano and percussion in her native Varna and continued her education at the Sofia Music Academy, and at the conservatories in Rotterdam and The Hague, in The Netherlands. Her teachers include Roza Sivrian, Prof. Dobri Paliev, Robert van Sice, Steven Schick, Prof. Siegfried Fink, Wim Vos, and James Wood.
New Music
From early on in her career, Tatiana Koleva has been actively involved in the promotion of contemporary music and art forms and regularly performs new compositions as a soloist, in ensembles, and in experimental music formations all over the world. Tatiana regularly performs with Theatergroep ZT Hollandia, musikFabrik, ASKO Ensemble, Schönberg Ensemble, Xenakis ensemble, Maarten Altena Ensemble, Weshm, Orkest de Volharding, Amsterdam Film Museum productions, and more.
Performances
She has appeared as a soloist with the Varna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra of the State Musical Academy-Sofia, and with the Xenakis Ensemble in the Netherlands. She is one of the founding members of the ensemble ELECTRA for new music, and performs in duos with the saxophonist Rutger van Otterloo and clarinettist Tara Bouman.
Awards
For her interpretation of contemporary music, Tatiana Koleva was awarded the Kranichsteiner Musikpreis, Darmstadt (1994), the Grand Prize in the ŒSvetoslav Obretenov¹ National Bulgarian Competition (1988), and Fourth Prize in the International Gaudeamus Interpreters Competition (1993). She has played concerts and given classes throughout Europe, Great Britain, Ireland, United States, Japan, Jordan and Mexico. In 1998, Tatiana was nominated for ‘Début of the Year’ and ‘Musician of the Year’ of Bulgaria.
CD Knock on Wood
Future engagements include trips to Germany, Ireland, Mexico, Bulgaria, Russia, Japan, and USA, as well as projects and concert tours in Holland. 2004 marked the release of her latest solo CD, ‘Knock on Wood’.
