“… Maar het meest zie ik uit naar de productie Whirly Girls van Renske Vrolijk en elektronisch ensemble ELECTRA. Vrolijk schrijft aansprekende muziek in een post-minimalistisch idioom, maar schuwt de traditie niet. Zij brengt een ode aan de luchtvaartpioniers Amelia Earhart en Hanna Reitsch, en neemt, een beetje à la Jacob ter Veldhuis, televisiefragmenten als uitgangspunt voor haar compositie. Lyrische zangpartijen worden ingebed in een pulserende ritmiek, soms doorsneden met stotterende herhalingen. Beeld en muziek vormen een onlosmakelijk geheel en creëren het wonderlijke gevoel je in een arcadisch landschap te bevinden, omgeven door klanken van de modernste techniek. Gaat dat zien!..”

James Poke presents this month’s Radio Icebreaker with a selection of new Dutch music, including a mandolin concerto from Martijn Padding’s new CD, two live performances from Louis Andriessen’s 70th birthday concert in Amsterdam, of music by Diderik Wagenaar and Andriessen himself, plus recent works by Yannis Kyriakides, Peter Adriaansz, Andrew Poppy and David Dramm. ELECTRA performs David Dramm’s Baton Rouge Massacre.
